Based in Oldtown, Co. Dublin, Patrick Griffin is no stranger to success in Britain. In fact, he has 30 career winners on British shores in his time as a trainer and that could become 31 on Tuesday as he sends one horse all the way to Ffos Las. Read on for more info!
Griffin has had a winner at Ffos Las in the past so that bodes well for the chances of Herja in the opening 2m6f novices’ hurdle. It looks like a nice bit of placement by the yard as it’s a very winnable contest and just the five runners are set to go to post.
Herja was sent off a 100/1 chance for her debut and she ran a cracker when fourth of 18 and beaten only around seven lengths behind Bayrann on the day, keeping on well late in the closing stages over the two miles.
She was sent to Newcastle for his last start and again went off a decent price of 16/1 which looked rather big considering the promise of her debut run. She again ran a good race when third behind the Willie Mullins-trained Armed And Fabulous.
This big step up in trip is just what the doctor ordered now and Herja has since changed ownership since she was last seen. The ground should be good with a little bit of good to soft in places which is ideal for her and the daughter of Policy Maker should be up to winning at the third attempt.
If there is a danger in the contest, it could come in the shape of Golan Loop. Warren Greatrex had a lovely winner at Punchestown last week thanks to Bill Baxter and this one rates as the main danger.
