We have a big meeting at Fairyhouse to look forward to today but the big gamble of the day is taking place at Hereford. In the 2m handicap hurdle, Kerry Lee’s Black Hawk Eagle has seen sustained support this morning, backed from 14/1 all the way into 4/1 at the time of writing this article.

The son of Awtaad won over this course and distance in January 2024 off a mark of 116 and he’s only 2lb higher in the weights now. He’s ground versatile and goes perfectly well on the forecast good, while he also arrives here off the back of some creditable efforts.

Third at Ffos Las to start his season in October, he followed that up with a second at Huntingdon before finding the Ladbrokes Hurdle too hot to handle at Ascot next time. He was last seen finishing fifth of 14 at Taunton in February, far from disgraced.

Formerly trained by Noel Meade in Ireland, he’s now back down to a workable mark, and he was very strong in the betting when he won here, sent off an 11/8 favourite. It would be no surprise to see continued and sustained support for him this afternoon and there’s even a chance he might go off favourite. Best of luck if you have a play.
